Faith and power, a lesson the disciples had to learn as they interacted with Jesus. It was not enough for them just to listen or just to follow. Jesus was looking for the step forward, that step that finally separated them from their past. That step that moved them into who they were becoming in their relationship with Him. That confirmation of faith into power. That change. Jesus turned to Peter after asking who do men say that I am and asked him, “But what about YOU? Who do YOU say I am?” A step forward moment. A separation from the world. Peter, being pushed or pulled, almost explodes with the power of the moment. “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
So here is my invitation to you. The power is not in the boat. It’s walking on the water. The power is not in the hanging back. It’s in the stepping into the challenges. “Who do you say I am?” The power is not in who you were but in who you are becoming in Christ. The power is experienced only as we step into the call of God.
Here is my call to you. Come, taste and see the Lord is good. Walk away from the life that was. When the invitation to step into Christ comes: Get up! Walk into the invitation! Into the power of the Spirit of God in all of its fullness. This is no time to sit in the back of the church. This is no time to hang on the sides of the boat. This is no time to find security in the things of this world. This is your time. You have been called by God into this moment. You must come forward, stand alone, exploding with the truth: “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” And here I am to serve You. Faith and power. Only in Jesus. Come.
